Design Research Studio partnered with Ikea in an experimental project to imagine the future of urban farming. We took our vision of vertical gardens, 3D printed soil and aeroponic technology to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London, hoping to inspire a sustainable and healthy lifestyle for urban dwellers of tomorrow.

Our exhibit was awarded the Silver Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society.

When thinking about future living it is impossible to ignore the role that crop growing will play and the challenges facing food generation.

At Design Research Studio we imagined solutions using developing technologies and presented them to the public as a series of concept-led spaces within a show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The Hyper-real garden is a horticultural laboratory where innovations such as artificial LED increase the rate of plant growth and crops are grown vertically to save space, aeroponic technology introduces nutrient-rich water directly to roots.

We designed 3D biodegradable printed soil sculptures for a mushroom cave where the Reishi mushrooms are tended to and harvested by an automated robotic arm.
